The Office of General Counsel provides a full array of services to the Office of Chief Justice, judges, circuit court clerks, managers and staff of the Administrative Office of the Courts, and other court personnel.
These services include:
- Advising on legal issues affecting the state court system; the effects of proposed legislation and the implementation of enacted legislation; employment matters; contracts and procurement; facilities and capital construction; and other legal matters as needed;
- Developing, revising, and approving standardized legal forms for statewide use by court officials and personnel, the private bar, various state agencies and the public;
- Coordination and management of all litigation involving KCOJ officials and the Administrative Office of the Courts;
- Development and implementation of KCOJ and AOC policies and procedures;
- Legal research through the State Law Library; and
- Record retention, accessioning, and destruction for all 120 counties, both appellate courts, and the Administrative Office of the Courts.
