Madison Circuit Court and Circuit Clerk’s Office to be closed May 5-9 for move

The Madison County Courthouse has been renovated and expanded with an addition (left) to increase space and improve security in the historic building. The facility will be closed May 5-9 as court operations move back from a temporary location. The courthouse will reopen May 12, and there will be a dedication ceremony later this month.         
 

FRANKFORT, Ky., April 30, 2025 – Madison County Circuit Court and the Office of Circuit Court Clerk will be closed the week of May 5-9 while court operations are moved back to the Madison County Courthouse from the temporary location used since November 2022.

Court business was moved to the Chase Bank building at 116 W. Main St. in Richmond while the courthouse was renovated and received an addition.

Offices are scheduled to reopen Monday, May 12, in the Madison County Courthouse at 101 W. Main St. in Richmond. Office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. EDT Monday-Friday.

A dedication ceremony for the newly renovated facility with addition will take place Friday, May 23.

Offices for Specialty Courts and Pretrial Services will also be in the courthouse after having been in separate, leased spaces. Specialty Courts offices are currently at 101 N. First St. and Pretrial is in the District Court building, which is the Madison County Hall of Justice at 351 W. Main St.

Family Court and District Court are not part of the project and remain in their current locations. Family Court proceedings take place at 119 N. 1st St. and District Court at the Hall of Justice.

Administrative Office of the Courts
The Administrative Office of the Courts in Frankfort is the operations arm of the state court system. The AOC supports the activities of nearly 3,300 court system employees and 412 elected justices, judges and circuit court clerks. As the fiscal agent for the state court system, the AOC executes the Judicial Branch budget.
