Master Commissioners

Master commissioners play a vital role in Kentucky’s judicial system by assisting circuit judges with specific legal responsibilities at the county level. Appointed by the circuit judge, they help manage judicial sales—most often involving court-ordered property sales such as foreclosures—as well as handle special proceedings and other tasks assigned by the court.

The Master Commissioner Advisory Committee consists of one master commissioner from each Supreme Court district, along with two at-large members appointed by the Chief Justice of the Commonwealth. The committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) on all matters related to accounting standards for master commissioners. Additionally, committee members serve as a resource and point of support for master commissioners throughout the state.
